A free event, The Shop Lot LA fundraising event will feature six (6) "Stores on Wheels" -Americaʼs latest trend in shopping! Trucks in attendance include Le Fashion Truck (as seen on NBCʼs The Today Show), Skullastic (as seen on NBC4 LA), Shop Truck LA, JD Luxe, BNIB LA Shoe Truck, as well as SVDPLAʼs very own store on wheels Glamour to Go. Dodger pitcher appears at SVdP's Store in Los Angeles

Los Angeles Dodger pitcher Javy Guerra signed autographs and posed for photos with fans this past Saturday at the Society's Thrift Store in Los Angeles.  Fans of all ages enjoyed meeting the Dodger reliever.  One girl presented Javy with a picture she had colored, while another girl, around 2, displayed her mighty swing for Javy.

Due to Father's Day the following day, a huge sale was also in place for the shoppers on Saturday.  Proceeds from the store revenue helps fund the Society's various local charitable programs for children and families.

Thank you, Javy, for your kindness.  Fellow Dodger Dee Gordon was originally scheduled to appear, but couldn't make it.  Here are some photos from Javy's appearance.

Ralphs & Food 4 Less Supermarkets present $22,000 check to Society's Council of Los Angeles

In an effort to assist the Society of St. Vincent de Paul's local charitable programs, Vanessa E. Rosales, manager of community relations of Ralphs & Food 4 Less Supermarkets, presented a $22,000 check to the Society on Thursday at its Los Angeles Thrift Store, 210 N. Avenue 21, 90031.

The donation is a result of the “Bringing Hope to the Table” holiday campaign in which financial gifts were collected in canisters at Ralphs & Food 4 Less' check stands to help local organizations like the Society.

"We are extremely grateful for this generous donation," said David Fields, executive director of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul's Council of Los Angeles, which serves the counties of Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara.  "This gift will allow us to continue to improve the quality of life for children, families and individuals through our varied outreach programs.”  

The check stand fundraising program is geared to help reduce hunger in communities across Southern California.

“Now more than ever, hunger organizations and food banks are stressed and stretched,” said Donna Giordano, president of Ralphs Supermarkets. “People who have never been in need before have been hurt by the difficult economy and they are struggling to meet their families’ basic food needs.”

The Society's Circle V Ranch Camp recently held its Open House to give families a sneak preview of what children can expect during summer camp this year.  More than 200 individuals enjoyed tours, lunch, activities and more.

Rotary Club of Los Angeles (LA5) donates financial gift to Society's Council of LA

Dr. Carmen Estrada-Schaye (l) of the Rotary Club of Los Angeles (LA5) presents a $5000 check to David Fields, executive director of the Society's Council of Los Angeles.

The Society's Council of Los Angeles on Friday received a $5,000 donation from the Rotary Club of Los Angeles (LA5) to help purchase appliances for its new family housing project on Virgil Street near Hollywood.  The new housing complex is scheduled to open later this year.  

Calling Council Vincentians

Dear Vincentians:

We are still looking for a couple of Vincentians who would like to be trained to participate on our team of workshop presenters.  We would love to have at least one or two Vincentian from each district. Please think about it.  Is our Lord calling you to reach out to those who serve Him, by assisting to guide them?  This  training will be to present the Ozanam Formation Workshop.  

Please contact us a soon as possible.  We are trying to determine total count of trainees.  You will be trained in July by the Western Regional Formation Chair, Patricia Metrick and you will continue your training by the Los Angeles staff.  The July training is for three consecutive days.  Info: 888-552-7872.
