SAVE THE DATE - 2nd Annual Hike for the Homeless in Griffith Park

The 2nd Annual Hike for the Homeless will take place on April 28th at beautiful Griffith Park in Los Angeles.

Adults, students and pets on leashes can hike the 2.64-mile Fern Canyon Trail or 2-mile Old Zoo trail at their own pace, beginning at 8:15 a.m. near the Merry-Go-Round lot. Griffith Park includes many attractions and is the largest municipal park with urban wilderness in the USA.

Registration is just $30 for adults, $20 for students and youth (ages 6-18) and $5 for pets, with proceeds benefitting the Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s Cardinal Manning Center and its work with homeless individuals. Registration includes a t-shirt, refreshments and a light breakfast. Various sponsorship packages are also available.

Winter Shelter Tour Puts Face on Homelessness

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul recently held a special tour called 'Gimme Shelter II' at the Ventura National Guard Armoury, site of the Society's emergency winter shelter in West Ventura County.

Individuals and prospective members of the Friends of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul visited the shelter to get a first-hands look at the day-to-day operation. The shelter is a safe haven for more than 100 individuals nightly during the winter. Following the visit, the group went next door to Barber Volkswagen where they spoke with community leaders.

David Fields, executive director of the Society, also spoke about St. Vincent de Paul's thoughts on additional programs to assist the homeless in the cities of Ventura and Oxnard.
