Glamour & charitable work come together at SVdP Store in Los Angeles

Glamour and charitable work came together at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul's Thrift Store today when the Society's new 'Traveling Boutique' was introduced prior to the store's 1st Thanksgiving basket distribution.

Society President Claire Padama spoke about the fashion van - the first of its kind for a non-profit in Los Angeles - and how it will help further enhance the Society's visibility and work for the local homeless and disadvantaged. It was Claire's dream that St. Vincent de Paul have a fashion van.

Society Store Director Tony Terrazas, who designed the store turkey distribution, thanked AAA Rubbish, Inc. and Athens Services for sponsoring the holiday giveaway. More than 120 local families benefited from the distribution, as each received a turkey and all the fixings.

St. Vincent de Paul Deputy Executive Director David Garcia welcomed everyone and served as the emcee.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s St. Patrick Conference in North Hollywood is seeking the public's assistance with food donations and financial gifts for its Thanksgiving distribution to the local poor and homeless. Assistance is needed with the following:

• Thanksgiving Baskets – Canned beans, canned fruit, canned tuna, canned green beans, pasta, cereal, fresh vegetables, coffee, cream and sugar are needed for 80 families. Donations accepted from 9 am to 8 pm until November 20 at 6153 Cahuenga Blvd., North Hollywood, CA 91606.

• In addition, financial gifts to purchase the needed food can be earmarked ‘2011 SVdP Thanksgiving’ and sent to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul St. Patrick Conference at the above address.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s St. Bernadette Conference in Los Angeles is seeking the public's assistance with food donations and financial gifts for its Thanksgiving basket distribution to the local poor.

• Thanksgiving Baskets – Cranberry sauce, green beans, corn, chicken broth, evaporated milk and turkey gravy are needed for 100 families. Donations accepted from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday thru Friday, until November 21 at 3825 Don Felipe Dr., Los Angeles, CA 90008.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s St. Madeleine Conference in Pomona is seeking the public's assistance with food donations and financial gifts for its Thanksgiving distribution to the local poor and homeless who have already signed up for the baskets. Assistance is needed with the following:

• Thanksgiving Baskets – Canned food for 100 families. Donations accepted from 9 am to 4:30 pm until November 17.

• Community Thanksgiving Meal – Rolls, Bread, Yams, Canned Vegetables, Gravy, Butter and Punch for 80 individuals. Donations accepted from 9 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, in the parish office (and) from 7:30 am to 5 pm on Sunday in the parish hall until November 22.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s St. Nativity Conference in Los Angeles is seeking the public's assistance with food donations and financial gifts for its Thanksgiving basket distribution to the local poor who have already signed up for the baskets.

Items sought include frozen turkeys and canned food for 40 families. Donations can be delivered from 9 am to 5 pm until November 18 to Nativity Church, 937 W. 57th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90037.

• Thanksgiving Baskets – Gift cards from Ralphs or Food 4 Less and frozen turkeys for 200 families. Donations accepted from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, until November 18.

• Community Thanksgiving Day Meal – Frozen turkeys and hams, yams and all the fixings for 250 individuals. Donations accepted from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, until November 22.
