A New Opportunity

Your gifts have given Gordon the chance for a brighter future

At 68, Gordon decided to leave hospice care. He was being treated for prostate cancer, but wanted to live on his own. He found a small trailer to rent in Long Beach. Then, while driving, he got into a car accident.

Thankfully, Gordon wasn’t injured. But since he didn’t have a current driver’s license, he ended up in jail. After his release, he realized the monthly social security benefits that helped him survive were taken away.

Gordon, a Vietnam veteran, struggled to pay his rent… and soon, faced eviction from his home.

“I needed help,” he remembers. “I went to the V.A., and didn’t get very far. That was when St. Vincent de Paul stepped up to help me… and pretty much saved my life.”

Our Long Beach Conference helped with two months of rent to prevent Gordon’s eviction so he could work on restoring his benefits.
