JOIN US SATURDAY!

PLANS FOR THIS WEEKEND?

Dear Vincentians,

We have a packed weekend, but we hope to see many of you at either or both of these events!!

First, we are celebrating St. Vincent and Blessed Frederic on Friday evening beginning with a 6PM Mass and followed by a reception, which will include a wonderful presentation by LA’s Historian Greg Fischer.  He will share the history of the Vincentian Family in the Los Angeles area from the very beginning!  Call us if you are coming: 888-552-7872 so we can save you a seat!

The address is:  De Paul Evangelization Center  1105 South Bluff Road, Montebello, CA   -- just a few minutes off of the 5 FWY.

Friends of the Poor Walk is Saturday, beginning with registration at 9AM!  Our program will begin at 10 AM and the run/walk shortly thereafter.  Please collect those final team members and donations!!  We can take registrations on Saturday morning, but we cannot guarantee t-shirt availability for new registrants.  Remember there is a Health and Resource Fair also courtesy of the City or LA – there will be many booths with information, useful resources, and a ton of activities for the entire family:  rock wall climbing, face painting, jumpers, health screenings, food trucks, and more!!

Thank you all for your wonderful work, and for participating in all these events.  We all benefit from everyone’s support, prayers and presence.

Many blessings!

Susana

Estimados Vicentinos,

¡Muchas bendiciones!

Susana Santana

SOCIETY IN IMMIGRATION REFORM PROCESSION

From David Rodriguez, President of St. Madeleine Conference in Pomona.

"The Procession for Compassionate and Comprehensive Immigration Reform took place in late August, 2013.  In my opinion it was a huge success!  I was glad to see the San Gabriel District well represented in the procession.  The Vincentian/KofC men with me from St. Madeleine's were tasked with crossing guard duties.  We walked ahead of the large procession and paired up at the intersections aiding the Brea Police Department as crossing guards.  Everyone participating made it to the congressman's office and back without any incident.  'Our Guardian Angels were watching over us'!"

DAVID GARCIA GUEST OF GOLETA CONFERENCE & ROTARY

Photo: Saint Raphael's Conference past president Donald Aubrey; his spouse, current conference president Lucille Aubrey; and Society deputy executive director David Garcia.

The Society's deputy executive director David Garcia visited Saint Raphael's Conference in Goleta, California, August 27, 2013. Garcia chatted with conference president Lucille Aubrey and her husband Donald, the former Santa Barbara district president of the Society, and the first president of Saint Raphael's Conference.  St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Goleta has had a Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Council of Los Angeles conference of charity since 2001, when the Aubreys founded it.

"We mostly do home visits," said Don. "We are fortunate to have a beautiful office given us by the parish," said Lucille, "where we meet with many of our 'clients'."  Garcia and the Aubreys visited the Rotary Club of Goleta meeting at the Glen Annie Golf Course that evening where Garcia and the Aubreys spoke to an estimated 30 Rotarians on the good works of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Goleta, and how the Rotarians could possibly become involved in assisting San Raphael conference.
