SOCIETY'S U.S. PRESIDENT PRAISES L.A. COUNCIL
Sheila Gilbert, president of the National Council of the U.S. Society of St. Vincent De Paul, visited the Society's Council of Los Angeles in March 2013. Gilbert spoke on systemic change to end poverty at the council's annual meeting at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels to 550 Vincentian volunteers. Gilbert also toured the council's Skid Row homeless shelter, new family housing, prisoner resettlement house and Los Angeles thrift store. Gilbert called the Los Angeles council, "a poster council for diversity" and proclaimed the council "one of the best of the country."
