Volunteers needed for jail ministry
Chaplain Gonzalo wants YOU!
Chaplain Gonzalo De Vivero, Catholic Chaplain for the L.A. Archdiocese Office of Restorative Justice, is seeking volunteers for the Archdiocese's jail ministry at Pitchess Detention Center in Saugus.
According to Chaplain Gonzalo, this ministry, which he has overseen for 14 years, touches approximately 300 men, mostly young adults, each week. These are men who ask for this program's assistance.
"This program allows us to meet the needs of the inmates in an orderly way," he said at the Council's recent General Meeting. "We need volunteers who can visit the jail with an open mind and allow (the inmates) to speak. This gives them the chance to express themselves and to look at themselves to see whether they want to change. From this, we can see how we may be able to help. Sometimes its a Bible, a rosary, a prayer."
Volunteers are needed Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays, weekly or semi-weekly.
For more information, please visit his program, "Finding the Way in Jail," at www.findingtheway.org.
Chaplain Gonzalo can be reached by calling 818-345-3049 or by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Please indicate St. Vincent de Paul in your telephone message or subject line.
