Vincentian Inspiration

It suffices that God sees our hearts."
- St. Vincent de Paul

"Es suficiente que Dios vea nuestros corazones."

- San Vicente de Paul

Lord, how painful it is to be misunderstood!
At those times, instead of trying to justify myself
I will remember your example and remain in peace.

¡Señor, cuan doloroso es el ser malentendido!
En esos momentos, en lugar de tratar de justificarme
recordaré tu ejemplo y permaneceré en paz.

Circle V Ranch Camp Welcomed Alumnus Tom Nolan and Volunteers from NASA JPL & Educators Leading Hands-On Science Demos for “Space Day”

On July 13, 2016, more than 175 Circle V Ranch campers ages 7-17 and 50 staff members participated in “Space Day” –a highlight of Session Three Space Week activities. All experienced and discovered STEM (Science, Technology Engineering, and Math) interactive demonstrations from expert volunteers led by Circle V Ranch Camp alumnus (1962-65) Tom Nolan, Operations Engineer with NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and a group of his colleagues.  (Pictured above left with Nolan), David Fields, Executive Director of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Council of Los Angeles that operates Circle V Ranch Camp thanked all the volunteer educators and exclaimed, “We are so grateful that you all came here today and shared your passion for science and showed our campers that they can have a career in science, too! Thank you, Tom Nolan, for telling us we all are scientists as long as we are curious!”

Circle V Ranch Camp Director Ray Lopez (pictured upper right with Nolan) remarked “This day was incredible for everyone here. It’s been such a blessing to have these caring people giving so much of their time and talent to inspire us! We are grateful for the map of the lunar landing sites that Tom gave us. Everyone loved the Mars Rover prototype that Tom brought to show us; and even rolled it over some of our counselors!

Vincentian Inspiration

"Duplicity is not pleasing to God and to be truly
simple we should propose
to ourselves no other end but to please God alone."
St. Vincent de Paul

“La duplicidad no le place a Dios, y para ser
realmente sencillos debiéramos
proponernos tener no otro fin que el complacer solo a Dios.”

-San Vicente de Paul

Heavenly Father, I ask for a conscience that is sensitive to all the nuances
of honesty and truthfulness.  Forgive my past failures in this regard.

Padre celestial, te pido una conciencia que sea sensible a todos los
requisitos de honestidad y veracidad.  Perdona mis fallas pasadas en esta área.

Lord, when I am tempted to be stubborn and unrelenting,
remind me of the times you showed boundless mercy
in forgiving my sins. Help me to imitate your example.

Señor, cuando me veo tentado a ser testarudo y necio,
recuérdame de los momentos cuando tú me has mostrado infinita misericordia
al perdonar mis pecados.  Ayúdame a imitar tu ejemplo.

Circle V Ranch Camp Dedicates New Fire Circle

Sunday, July 3, 2016
The new fire circle at Circle V Ranch is dedicated last week.

The new and improved fire circle area in the center of the 30-acre camp at 2250 State Route 154, across from Lake Cachuma adjacent to the Huston Memorial Sports Court, was made possible by a generous donation by the Dan Murphy Foundation of Los Angeles, according to Ray Lopez, camp director.
The refurbished area is made of slate rock with a fire-safe shield in the center and can seat at least 200 people on 38 benches made of Monterey pine handcrafted by Goleta resident John Miller.

The original fire circle only seated 150 guests on rough-hewn logs that surrounded a small fire pit, Mr. Lopez said.

"The Trustees of the Dan Murphy Foundation are pleased to be able to make the renovation of the fire circle for the St. Vincent de Paul Circle V Ranch Camp possible as part of their longstanding support of the summer camp program," Richard Grant, president of the Dan Murphy Foundation, said in a press release. "We wish you many blessed years and happy times around the new fire circle. May God bless all those who gather near."
David Fields, executive director of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Los Angeles Council, was a part of the dedication ceremony earlier this week and expressed his gratitude toward the Dan Murphy Foundation and their support through the years.

"From today forward, this Dan Murphy Fire Circle is a tangible reminder that all who gather here are blessed by their generosity," Mr. Fields said.

The formal blessing of the fire circle was conducted by the Rev. Matthew Elshoff of the Santa Ines Mission in Solvang.

"Fire has always been a symbol of God's love, warmth and light in this world," the Rev. Elshoff said. "The Dan Murphy Fire Circle here at Circle V Ranch Camp brings us together to know and share God's love and brothers and sisters."

The new fire circle will serve campers during the Circle V Ranch Camp summer session and will be available for retreat groups during the rest of the year, Mr. Lopez said.

Circle V Ranch and Retreat Center was founded in 1945 by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Council of Los Angeles and has been at its current site since 1990.

Reservations for retreat groups are being accepted year-round.

Circle V Ranch Camp Dedicates New Dan Murphy Fire Circle Area

On Tuesday, June 28, 2016, members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Los Angeles Council along with 175 campers and 50 staff celebrated the dedication of the new Dan Murphy Fire Circle area at the Society’s Circle V (Vee) Ranch Camp & Retreat Center; located just 20 minutes north of Santa Barbara at 2550 Highway 154 across from Cachuma Lake in the Santa Ynez Valley.

A generous donation by the Dan Murphy Foundation of Los Angeles made this new, improved Dan Murphy Fire Circle area possible this summer. Situated in the center of the 30-acre camp adjacent to the Huston Memorial Sports Court, the new and refurbished area in the half-round complete with “fire circle” made of slate rock with a fire-safe shield in the center; now seats 200 people on 38 benches made of Monterey pine hand-crafted by John Miller of Goleta. The original area only seated 150 guests on rough-hewn logs surrounding a small fire pit.

Richard Grant, president  of the Dan Murphy Foundation stated, “The Trustees of the Dan Murphy Foundation are pleased to be able to make the renovation of the fire circle for the St. Vincent de Paul  Circle V Ranch Camp possible as part of their longstanding support of the summer camp program.  We wish you many blessed years and happy times around the new fire circle.  May God bless all those who gather near.”
