“Uno debes ser extremadamente consiente en la  preparación de los medicamentos que uno maneja.”
-San Vicente de Paul
Whether I am responsible for preparation of  medicines or not, teach me Lord to respect my own body by taking medication  exactly as prescribed and not over or under medicating myself to the  detriment of my health.
Sea o no responsable de preparar medicamentos,  enséñame Señor a respetar mi propio cuerpo al tomar medicamentos exactamente como son prescritos y no sobre-medicarme o no tomarlos, causando  daños a mi salud.

Valley volunteers feed homeless on Skid Row

Volunteer members of the Old Mission Santa Ines Society of St. Vincent de Paul Conference of Charity traveled to Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles on June 3 to serve lunch to 70 homeless men and women at the society’s Cardinal Manning Center. “Our mission is simple: to help the needy of any religious background with the spirit of love and compassion and on this day, a hearty lunch, said Sally Corlett, Santa Ynez resident, and volunteer. "We felt called to help the homeless in Los Angeles as part of our service to others.” The Old Mission Santa Ines Conference is part of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Council of Los Angeles. Volunteer members belong to parish conferences of charity and are known as Vincentians. In 2015, Old Mission Santa Ines Conference celebrated 15 years of service to the parish and the community.   "It was incredibly rewarding to go to Skid Row in Los Angeles and bring lunch to the needy at the Cardinal Manning Center," said Mary French, presiden…

Muhammad Ali’s Help to Phoenix SVdP

Paying Tribute to Boxing Great Muhammad Ali
Executive Director Reflecting on SVdP Memories with The Champ
By: Steve Zabilski, Executive Director
Published June 2016

Public figures don't usually come to St. Vincent de Paul. They are busy doing the important things that make them so well known. Muhammad Ali was the exception. He came to our dining rooms to be with our guests. Not to lecture. Not to judge. He simply wanted to be with those less fortunate, those who were struggling. He wanted to let them know that they were Important. That they were loved.

It mattered little that Muhammad lost his ability to speak, for he communicated to our guests through his heart and his soul. It was his presence that was the gift. I was in awe of how a man who was unable to speak could inspire so many people. I was even more in awe how the children who had no idea who Muhammad was, knew he was someone special. I witnessed it time and time again, as The Champ was a regular volunteer in our dining ro…

City Of Angels- Society Of St. Vincent De Paul

As Los Angeles’ burgeoning homeless population reaches a distressing 45,000, protests erupting in Hollywood and downtown Los Angeles draw attention to the homeless crisis. Coupled with a promise by LA’s Mayor Garcetti of 1.8 billion dollars to contribute to the issue, it is clear that the homeless situation in our “City of Angels” has well-earned it’s “state of emergency” status. But you don’t need statistics and figures to recognize that, you need only drive under a highway to see the pop-up cities of our brothers and sisters. The scope of the issue is staggering and leaves any citizen of Los Angeles feeling helpless, overwhelmed, and ill-equipped. In the face of the plight of thousands of people, it begs the question, “What can one little person do?” And the answer is simple: do something! Helen Keller put it best when she said, “I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something.” What we need is a social movement grinding and working and striving towards s…
