Bargain Hunter: For creative costumes on the cheap, shop thrift stores

Over the weekend, my neighborhood thrift store was jam-packed with folks looking for steep savings on Halloween costumes.

A floor-length flower girl frock that I picked up for $8 inspired my daughter to create her own trick-or-treat look, when paired with a bunny mask and beaded shawl.
If you want to stand out, shopping secondhand stores for deals on costumes is the way to go.
Fortunately, Southern California has no shortage of these retailers, including St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store (210 N. Ave. 21, Los Angeles and 2750 E. Pacific Coast Highway, Long Beach) which inspired this item.
I’d love to hear what you’ve dug up at a thrift store near you.
