The Cardinal Manning Center Volunteer Appreciation Brunch was held June 21 at the center in Los Angeles. Volunteers were presented with awards, a nice meal and live classical music. New social services director for the Society Lawrence Hurst was introduced. Welcome Larry!
The Society’s Los Angeles thrift store had 75 volunteers from the Discovery Channel help with store operations, paint and clean with enthusiasm Friday, June 20. Thank you to LA Works who facilitated this visit and to our busy volunteers from the Discovery Channel!
Wednesday, June 18, there was a going away party for Ernie and Becky Morales at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Oxnard. They are going on an extended visit to their eldest son Jeff’s family in Vancouver, Canada. They were given a statue of Frederic Ozanam and Saint Vincent de Paul in recognition of their years of service to the Society in Ventura County. “Thank you for the gifts but what I really cherish it is your love,” said Ernie. We will miss you Ernie and Becky!
Thursday, June 12, 2014 an Employee Recognition Lunch was held at the Society's Long Beach thrift store honoring the store's employees and volunteers. A raffle was held for gift cards with the fine Mexican meal. The store's employees were praised by Society executive director David Fields for their fine work, and knowledge of the Society's mission and good works to the poor.

Los Angeles, May 29,2014– Underserved kids who have lost everything gain a week of happiness at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s Circle V Ranch Camp each summer. The society is a Catholic charity assisting the needy of every race, religion and gender. The May 29, 2014 Mardi Gras in May Benefit Dinner & Awards Ceremony at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites in Los Angeles raised funds to send 1,200 children to camp this summer and honored Bishop Gordon D. Bennett, S.J.; Deborah Estes; the Polenzani Family and Shoe Palace.
Most Rev. Gordon D. Bennett, S.J., D.D., is a member of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and a Roman Catholic Bishop with extensive experience in educational administration, cultural diversity, church leadership and Ignition spirituality and formation.
Deborah A. Estes is chair and president of Specialty Family Foundation. The foundation seeks to alleviate the conditions that lead to persistent poverty, primarily expanding educational opportunities in low-income communities and treatment for substance abuse and alcoholism.
Tom Polenzani, founder of Polenzani Benefits; and Elizabeth Polenzani, Professor Emeritus at Pasadena City College, live lives guided by service to their community. Through their actions they have passed a passion for service to their children: Jennifer, Tom, Michael and Kathleen.
