URBAN PLANNING STUDENTS STUDY SOCIETY

Urban planning students from UCLA's Luskin School of Public Affairs, led by architect John Kaliski, AIA, and the Society's Director of Housing Ron Mulvihill, visited the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Council of Los Angeles' administrative offices and thrift store in Los Angeles, January 17, 2013. The students are studying the buildings, property and needs of the Society in Los Angeles to make suggestions on future use as a part of their Special Projects in Urban Design class.  Thank you UCLA!

DEACON SEIDLER REMEMBERS RANCH CAMP

Deacon Bob Seidler, Assistant to Bishop Gerald Wilkerson, credits his three summers (1957 - 1959) at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul's Circle V Ranch Camp, with his interest in ministry.  "In those days, most of the counselors were seminarians," said Seidler. "They were a big reason I went to the seminary."  
Seidler rediscovered a photo of the ordination of  Monsignor Peter Amy (above). In the photo, left to right, are Reverend Amy, Bob Seidler, Mario Nargi, Tim Nielsen and Ted Schneringer.  "The four of us, and others from our grade school class at St. Patrick's in North Hollywood, were all at St. Vincent de Paul Ranch Camp where "Dead Eye" Pete was one of our counselors," said Seidler.
Seidler went to St. John's Seminary (1964 - 1968) but discerned a call to married life, later marrying and having two children and four grandchildren.  Seidler was in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, trained as a motion picture lab tech…

MARIA GONZALEZ RETIRES FROM L.A. THRIFT STORE

Maria Gonzalez, a Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Council of Los Angeles employee at the L.A. thrift store for seven years, retired December 31, 2012.  Society Executive Director David Fields said, "We would like to thank Maria for her years of service.  She is one of our dedicated, hard-working employees.  We wish her a happy retirement."  Gonzalez, who worked in the production area of the store preparing goods for sale, said she enjoyed working for the Society and wishes everyone well.
