If you have any questions, need additional assistance, need a flier, etc., do not hesitate to contact me via e-mail sanman@svdpla.org or by calling 323-226-1757.

SVdP founder Blessed Frederic Ozanam's quote explains Vincentian's mission

Image
Throughout the year, more than 2,000 'Vincentian' volunteers from the Society's Council of Los Angeles exhibit their Christian love by helping others in need. This group includes professionals, retirees and students who choose to serve God by making a difference for children, women and men in the counties of L.A., Ventura and San Barbara.

With so much going on in today's world, why choose this mission? Perhaps St. Vincent de Paul's founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, said it best with this simple quote:

"Christianity is not about ideas but about deeds inspired by love."

Thank you to the Council's Vincentians for your continued and tireless efforts in improving the quality of life for many of our brothers and sisters in need.

For more information on how to become a Vincentian for the Society's Council of L.A., please call 323-224-6298.

A Letter from the Society's National President

Image
Dear Vincentians:

The concept of family has special significance for our Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

The beautiful fact that as members of God's family we are all brothers and sisters in Christ clearly defines our relationship to those we serve. It also unites all Vincentians in a familial vocation of loving service to the less fortunate of His children.

We have the special privilege of being in solidarity with Vincentians in 142 countries. Together we bring to life Blessed Frederic Ozanam's magnificent vision of a network of charity embracing the world.

Just as human hopes, dreams and values know no geographical boundaries; neither do the needs of the poor. Whether it be Argentina or Australia...India or Italy...Mexico or Myanmar...Singapore or Spain...Uganda or Ukraine, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is there to help.

As you read this letter, Vincentians in Haiti are aiding those affected by the earthquake which devastated one of the poorest countries on earth. Ou…

Words from Saint Vincent de Paul

Image
The most powerful weapon to conquer the devil is humility. For, as he does not know at all how to employ it, neither does he know how to defend himself from it.

~ A Year with the Saints (1891) by Anonymous.

You will find out that Charity is a heavy burden to carry, heavier than the kettle of soup and the full basket. But you will keep your gentleness and your smile. It is not enough to give soup and bread. This the rich can do. You are the servant of the poor, always smiling and good-humored. They are your masters, terribly sensitive and exacting master you will see. and the uglier and the dirtier they will be, the more unjust and insulting, the more love you must give them. It is only for your love alone that the poor will forgive you the bread you give to them.
