BREAKING NEWS - St. Vincent de Paul Conferences still seek Christmas help!


With Christmas nearly here, various local St. Vincent de Paul Conferences (groups of year-round volunteers) are still in NEED of new toys, food and financial donations to help make the holiday special for thousands of homeless, disadvantaged and working-poor families and individuals.

The following is a list of St. Vincent de Paul Conferences and their Christmas needs:


COMPTON

Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s Our Lady of Victory Conference (409 E. Palmer St.)

Toys – New and unwrapped for 50 boys and girls, ages 3-12.
Food Baskets – Frozen turkeys or hams, vegetables, canned goods, stuffing mix, pinto beans, rice, tortillas and fresh fruit for 30 families.
Financial Gifts – Monetary donations to help purchase the needed food.

Financial gifts – earmarked ‘2009 SVdP Christmas Help’ – can be mailed to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Our Lady of Victory Conference, 409 E. Palmer St., Compton, CA 90221. LOS ANGELES

Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s Holy Name of Jesus Conference (2190 W. 31st St.)

Toys - New and unwrapped for 70 boys and girls, ages 2-12.
Food Baskets – Frozen turkeys, canned vegetables, canned soup, canned gravy, flour, sugar, dressing, cooking oil, seasonings, rice, potatoes and yams for 60 families.
Financial Gifts – Monetary donations to help purchase the toys and food.

OXNARD

Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s Mary Star of the Sea Conference (463 W. Pleasant Valley Rd.)

Toys - New and unwrapped for 201 boys and girls, ages 12 and under.
Financial Gifts – Monetary donations to help purchase the toys, and food vouchers for 103 families.

Financial gifts – earmarked ‘2009 SVdP Christmas Help’ – can be mailed to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Mary Star of the Sea Conference, 463 W. Pleasant Valley Rd., Oxnard, CA 93033. POMONA

Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s St. Madeleine Conference (931 E. Kingsley Ave.)

Toys - New and unwrapped for 140 boys and girls, ages 1-12.
Food Baskets – Frozen or canned hams, yams, rolls, instant potatoes, pies, macaroni loaves of bread, canned vegetables, canned fruit, candy and grocery vouchers (in $10 increments) for 100 families.
Financial Gifts – Monetary donations to help purchase the toys and food.

POMONA

Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s St. Joseph Conference (1150 W. Holt Ave., Pomona)

Toys - New and unwrapped for 400 boys and girls, ages 12 and under.
Food Baskets – Frozen or canned hams, canned fruit, canned vegetables, canned goods, rice, beans, spaghetti, instant potatoes, stuffing mix, pies and powdered or evaporated milk for 100 families.
Adopt-A-Family – Sponsors sought to adopt (25) families in extreme need. Sponsors would purchase gifts and food for the family. (Note – Please call for family size and needs at 909-629-1404).
Financial Gifts – Monetary donations to help purchase the toys and food.

Financial gifts – earmarked ‘2009 SVdP Christmas Help’ – can be mailed to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul St. Joseph Conference, 1150 W. Holt Ave., Pomona, CA 91768. Donations also can be dropped off at the above address from 9-11 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday until December 20 (or toys, only, through the SVdP collection bin at the back of the church property daily). SHERMAN OAKS

Financial Gifts – Monetary donations to help purchase food vouchers for 15 families.

VENTURA

Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s Our Lady of the Assumption Conference (3175 Telegraph Rd.)

Toys - New and unwrapped for 1,000 boys and girls, ages 16 and under. * Please, no toys that require batteries.
Food Baskets – Non-perishable items for 125 families.
Financial Gifts – Monetary donations to help purchase the toys and food.

Financial gifts – earmarked ‘2009 SVdP Christmas Help’ – can be mailed to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Our Lady of the Assumption Conference, 3175 Telegraph Rd., Ventura, CA 93003. Donations also can be dropped off at the above address from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday-Friday, and 9 a.m. to Noon, Saturday, thru December 19. Information: 805-642-7966 (please call first).

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and one of the oldest charities in the world, having been founded in France in 1833 by a group of young students to help serve the poor of all faiths through personal service. That vow of personal service remains as constant today as it did then.
