All Souls Youth Conference Scare Up Decorations for Cardinal Manning Center
Close to 15 members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul's All Souls Youth Conference in Alhambra - a group of teenage 'Vincentian' volunteers - recently ventured to the Society's Cardinal Manning Center (homeless shelter) in Skid Row to decorate the residence for Halloween.
The young Vincentians spent several hours in the preceding days creating hand-made spiders, ghosts and other scary spectral décor. The Conference members – who belong to the Society’s newest youth conference – concluded the day by receiving a tour of the facility, which features two murals, including one by renowned artist Judith Baca, and talking with Joan Sotiros, director of the Society’s shelter programs
“It’s incredible how a few decorations make a difference in the Center’s atmosphere,” said Manuel A. Sánchez, youth/young adult Conference coordinator for the Council of L.A. “And having the young people come here in and of itself makes an impact on the people who use our facilities.”
For information on how young people can become members of a St. Vincent de Paul Youth Conference and have fun while helping to improve the lives of disadvantaged and homeless children and families, please contact Sánchez at 323-226-1757 or via e-mail at email@example.com.
